A property show is expected to attract thousands of people to Swindon later this month.

The Festival of Sustainable Homes will be held at the National Self Build and Renovation Centre on May 17 and 18.

The family-friendly show will feature more than 200 exhibitors offering advice and information on how to make homes more sustainable, along with inspiring talks, educational tours, and a nature zone that shines a spotlight on charities and other organisations working to protect the environment.

Chippenham-based business Good Energy has been announced as the official sponsor of the event.

The firm has been at the forefront of clean energy for a quarter of a century, supplying electricity backed by power from a UK network of more than 2,000 renewable generators, and offering bespoke solar panel and heat pump installations.

Spokeswoman Laura Wildish said: “We’re excited to support the NSBRC’s first festival and look forward to it being a huge success.

“People are increasingly keen to play their part in tackling the climate crisis, and there’s no better place to start than how we power and heat our own homes.

“The event will be perfect for anyone wanting to learn how to live a greener life.”

Tickets are free if booked in advance from www.nsbrc.co.uk

The NSBRC is the UK's only permanent venue for independent homebuilding advice and support.

Based at Lydiard Fields near Junction 16 of the M4, it is designed specifically to meet the needs of individual self-builders, renovators and home improvers, aiming to help people enjoy better designed, energy-efficient homes.

Established in 2007, and owned by its employees since 2014, it has helped a quarter of a million visitors build their own dream home or extend and improve their existing property.

Managing director Harvey Fremlin said: “With a 25-year legacy as renewable pioneers, based down the road from us in Chippenham, Good Energy are the perfect partners for the festival.

“We are excited to work with the team to help thousands of people to learn more about creating better, sustainable homes.”

The Festival of Sustainable Homes will be open on Friday and Saturday May 17-18 from 9am-5pm, with free parking. Tickets are free if booked in advance.

Good Energy is also sponsoring this year’s Chippenham Pride on Saturday, June 15.

Its ambition is to support one million homes and businesses to cut carbon from their energy and transport used by 2025.
